Read-Aloud Hosting
Read the instructions while children keep the decisions. A steady script can make a clue accessible without giving away its result.
Opening script
“We have a mystery to solve together. Every page has a job for us. We will keep the result beside its badge, then use the final page to finish the mission. You can ask for a hint or a break.” Follow this with the selected game’s own story opening.
Read each rule evenly
Read the target and every condition, then ask a child to say what the page wants them to find. On a completed-record clue, read the status of each entry without emphasizing the correct one. On a signal clue, read the reports and let players work out the legend.
- “What are we trying to find?”
- “Which printed rule are we using?”
- “Show me the last step you are sure about.”
- “Would you like the first hint?”
- Wait for the group to propose its next step
Make working visible
Keep the relevant sheet and record beside one another. The recorder can draw, cross out possibilities or trace a route while another child explains it. If reading is tiring, the adult can continue reading without taking over the checking or recording jobs.
