Host Two Teams at Different Paces

Give each team a complete set, a separate record and its own hints so both groups can finish their investigation.

What you’ll have: A two-team table arrangement and a plan for uneven progress.

Set two independent workspaces

Choose two teams in the preparation form and use the displayed print plan. Label the two player and record sets before play. Place the teams far enough apart that one can discuss a result without giving it to the other. Keep the host answers centrally with the adult.

  • Team 1: one full clue set, one record set and pencils
  • Team 2: a separate full clue set, record set and pencils
  • Host: one answer and hint set
  • A visible team label on every record
  • The same content version for both teams

Track the teams separately

On the host page, select the team before marking a clue complete or checking its progress. Ask for the badge name when a team requests help, then read that clue’s next useful hint quietly. Marking a paper clue complete is a host record; check the children’s working and answer before marking it.

Use a waiting task with a purpose

When one team finishes first, ask them to choose one discarded option and explain why it failed, or draw their route with the important checks marked. They can prepare a short explanation for the other team after it finishes. Keep their final answer out of the shared conversation until then.

Handle a large difference in pace

Offer the slower team a role change or its next hint. If time is short, the adult may help with a single prerequisite result and let the team carry out the final step. Pause the timer during breaks. Read the ending to each team when it is ready, then bring everyone together for a short review.
